Aureus Backstory Bio Category: Uncategorized
"So she birthed an abomination of her own... Find it, bring it to me" Zeus bellowed in the halls of the gods he had an absolute distaste for Aureus' mother yet couldn't touch her due to the protections she had, Aureus had some of those protections himself yet he never needed them due to his selective upbringing, born to his mother Lotus Horu and the Egyptian god of the underworld Anubis, it was evident from the beginning that his father would never be around and as such Aureus had an adoptive father, one that cherished and cared for him as much as he cared for his own children, Randy Lycurgus.
Now despite the fact Randy and Lotus didn't work out in the end Aureus kept in contact with Randy and Randy still cared for Aureus even at times both of them helping the other out of tight spots of trouble. His relationship with his mother however was rocky, in recent times he was able to reconnect with her and hoped they would be able to repair the damage of their past but that was still up in the air, despite that however he certainly loved Lotus and would do anything for her even if it meant putting himself in danger.
Now when it came to his father Anubis, Aureus absolutely despised him and for good reason, feeling effectively abandoned from birth left irreparable damage that he vowed to make him pay for it and as he came into his own as an adult and was able to harness his godhood powers the plans were set in motion to make sure Anubis would understand the pain he bestowed upon his own son however it was not something that could just be done overnight.
While Aureus was on his own he knew he couldn't easily set foot in Olympus especially when he knew Zeus and the others close to him were aware of yet another green haired, pot smoking 'abomination' so Aureus did what he knew best, to sneak and skulk in areas that he wasn't supposed to be in, specifically The River Styx. He knew the stories of course especially thanks to Lotus he was not only Egyptian but also Greek, now skulking around the Styx wasn't exactly easy and there were occasions where he had almost gotten caught by the Boatman Charon yet that didn't stop him at all, at least not until he was caught by someone he didn't expect, Hades himself.
"You shouldn't be here boy." That booming voice of the god of the underworld caused Aureus to sigh as he was looking over the Styx, a blunt in one hand as he took a long drag and blew it before he turned around and looked up at the god "While you have a point, you don't exactly have the tightest security around here, would not surprise me if a soul or two escaped you... At least before I started claiming them for myself." Aureus had a cocky smirk on his lips before he raised his lantern, twenty-five souls floating around in it, Hades seemingly impressed he still scoffed "You'll return those. But for now I believe I can make use of you." Before Aureus even had a chance to object Hades gripped his shoulder and within the next moment they were in the House of Hades, Aureus' eyes narrowed as he looked at Hades "Didn't know the god of the underworld was still into kidnapping other gods." Hades would scoff once more before turning his head from his desk "Would you rather be with my brother Zeus?" Aureus groaned before he opened his lantern and let the souls back into Hades' control. "What do you want?" Aureus looked towards the Pool of Styx and saw someone coming out of it, a male, groaning as he walked towards the desk "Failed again? You aren't living up to your task Zagreus." Hades mentioned in a dismissive tone and that was when Aureus realized why he was brought here, walking towards Zagreus he would look back at Hades "Let me guess, you want me to help him?" Zagreus however would scoff and shook his head "Father I do not need help, Thanatos and Achilles have trained me more than enough."
At that point Hades dismissed both of them and forced Aureus and Zagreus to work together to test the defence systems of the underworld, over the years Aureus learnt much about his powers, controlling lost souls of the underworld and learning combative prowess with his weapon of choice, a scythe that would be able to absorb souls if the tip of the blade touched it's target. It had gotten to the point that the underworld Hades ruled over had gotten so impenetrable that not even Aureus would go undetected at times it even impressed Hades just how well things had progressed and so quickly to boot. Aureus had returned from Elysium one evening and saw Hades alone at his desk. "Boy, you've been here long enough, you've done everything I wanted and more, you'll be free to come and go as you please and Charon will provide his services to you, be sure to give Anubis my regards." Aureus' eyes widened; it was like Hades knew exactly what Aureus was planning, without saying a word; however Aureus just nodded and left to find the boatman, wanting out of the Styx before Hades changed his mind.
Once Aureus was out of the Styx he had returned to Egypt, it was less chaotic there, he didn't need to hide and was able to plan exactly what he wanted to do, take revenge on his father and absorb his soul. After taking some weeks planning his attack he knew what he would need to do, act like a lost soul himself. Thankfully Aureus knew exactly how to do that, turning into a wraith it made him look like a wandering soul and that was when he would enter the Duat. It didn't take long for Aureus to groan at what the place looked like, it was nothing like how Hades had kept his underworld but that was expected considering the reputation Anubis had.
Aureus would make his way through the underworld until he got towards Anubis' temple, it was too easy, security was light, slipping past was child's play and once he was in the temple he changed his form into one he had rarely used, one he despised but knew he would need to overcome his hatred for it, his Jackal form. The black canine head turned from side to side, cracking his neck as he would move towards the bed chambers, summoning his scythe into his hand he would sneak into the room, he saw Anubis there sitting at his desk, Aureus' footsteps were light, almost like feathers and it wasn't until the scythe was wrapped around Anubis' neck didn't he realize he wasn't alone "Get up. I want you to look at me before I do what I've wanted to do for decades." Aureus' tone was clearly full of anger but Anubis would do what he was told and turned, seeing his eyes he knew who it was "Aureus.. but why?" Aureus' eyes burned with anger that he would elbow Anubis in the face causing him to fall to one knee "How can you ask why when you neglected me my entire life?! So I've come to do something someone should've done centuries ago." Moving behind Anubis he would lower his scythe around his chest. "Any last words?" Aureus questioned before Anubis lightly laughed and shook his head "prove yourself worthy." Was all Anubis spoke before Aureus drove the tip of his scythe into Anubis' chest, absorbing his soul into the scythe before he ripped off the Ankh Anubis was wearing around his neck and siphoned the soul into the Ankh before fully driving the scythe blade into Anubis, finishing the job, letting his body fall to the floor with his scythe, placing the Ankh on the desk he would sit down and summoned a blunt, taking a long drag before letting out the green smoke from his Jackal maw, the next moment he would summon a staff and impaled the Ankh onto the top of the staff "A sign of what happens for betrayal." Over the next few days Aureus would assemble a counsel of whatever remained of Anubis' court and claimed himself as the new ruler of the Duat, vowing to change everything for the better, souls requests would be listened to and if possible each request would be approved, he would even rebuild many of the facilities that Anubis let fall abandoned - Aureus was no longer just the god of haunted lost souls, he was also the god of the underworld and in his rule, he wouldn't let it fall into ruination.
What was next for Aureus? Only time would really tell, but he knew one thing was for certain, his adventures in and outside of the Duat were far from over.
