Many centuries ago before the continental divide, a young creature later known as Sasquatch among other names, was trying to escape a volcano eruption. As he was running through the dense forest. He heard "HELP ME" he knew he was supposed to stay away from humans. But it was in him to protect everyone animal or not in the woods.
He found a man under a tree. The lava was inching his way. The young sasquatch picked the tree up and dragged the man to safety. He was hurt pretty bad but the young sasquatch nursed him to health. Over the years they became friends.
The man was a shaman or witch doctor of a local tribe. In return for his help he gave the sasquatch a gift. A talisman. With it he be became human and intelligent. He could transform at will. And became an immortal.
